Special Education Funding. Is it gone? Education and Special Needs Starting in Preschool..

Hello everyone,
GOGREATSTART.ORGI have been in a Public School System for many years. Two years ago the Federal and State Government made so many cuts from the schools and especially to the Special Needs.
I lost my JOB!
Special education can help in many ways, from simple speech to the most dramatic issues.
Every child that needs the help, should be able to receive it!
Beginning in Preschool, there are so many children that enter, not even holding a crayon or able to use a pair of scissors.
Are they Special Needs or the lack of attention from Care Givers?
The fact is, these children need help and no one is there to help!
WAKE UP AMERICA! Our children need HELP!  Education in this country, is stated to be behind, according to the BIG WIGS in Education.
SO, why would you cut funding?  New York may have something here according to The New York Times
New York State clearly needs to strengthen oversight of the fraud-riddled program that spends $2 billion a year on special education services for preschool children with learning or other disabilities. The State Education Department got off to a good start this month when it issued a preliminary reform proposal. Over the past decade, the cost of the special education program has risen to $2 billion from $792 million, though the number of students served has grown only to about 75,000 from 60,000. The Education Department does not have the expertise and personnel to conduct in-depth audits of the private contractors.
Another problem is how the program’s cost is shared. The state pays about 60 percent and counties pay the rest. But decisions about the services that particular children need are made by committees at the school district level — even though the districts pay none of the costs.
The county governments have long complained about being forced to write sizable checks with little say in the service decisions and too little authority over providers.
Finally, the Legislature should reconsider the way it has turned over the program to private companies, which not only provide the services but often evaluate a child to see what care is needed. In most states, public school districts provide the services. State officials place New York’s average cost per special-education preschool child at about $17,000, likely one of the highest rates in the nation; Massachusetts spends less than $10,000, The Times reported this year. New York’s costly program is long overdue for close scrutiny and re-evaluation.(http://www.nytimes.com/2012/09/29/opinion/overhaul-special-education-for-preschool.html?ref=educationpreschool)
WOW, those are some big figures. I think that they need to evaluate those numbers, first.
The bottom line is, that EVERY CHILD should have a chance to succeed in education and life. We as Parents, need to make sure the SCHOOL SYSTEMS & LOCAL GOVERNMENT WILL HELP.
If your school won't help, call your State Rep.!!!!! Do not stop until your child is helped, from the smallest to the largest issue. This Educational moment has been brought to you by, Jill, Jillz-Research and /truestory.php?id=marketresearch

Childhood Education

Creating a Safe Environment, Pre-K
“The effect of a child’s health, safety, and nutrition on development has been proven beyond a doubt!”(Marotz, 2009) As a child care provider, I need to make certain that all the children have the best chance at development in all areas of their lives.
During the Pre-school and early school-age years, children begin to mature but health and safety take on a whole new role. These children are much more active and require more detail to their safety and nutrition. Age appropriate practices that include indoor , outdoor, health, safety, and nutritional guidelines, are the essence of building a developmentally sound child.
“Children’s growth and development are continually shaped and influenced by their environment.” (Marotz,2009.)
As a child grows, so do their toys.
A large muscle toy as in a Jungle Jim may be fun for climbing but the safety of the child is most important. Any large climbing toy, platforms, or decks, must be no more than four-five feet high.
They must have railings, especially if over 30 inches high. Safety is # 1 in priority, never leave a child unattended.
A Jungle Jim can be a great way to build large muscles, gain self- confidence, and also get a lot of exercise. Preschoolers should have at least 60 minutes of physical activity during the day (Marotz,2009).
Bicycles and other riding toys are a great way to build those muscles and develop coordination.
Safety again is #1. Always teach them that safety is very important, they need to wear a properly fitted helmet at all times, while riding and meet safety standards set by the Consumer Product Safety Commission.
Never wear a helmet while playing on the Jungle Jim that could cause serious injuries. A great indoor activity is learning how to recycle. Children in the ages of pre-k and above are able and ready to learn, if we as educators can make it fun.

ADHD and Your Child

Have you ever wondered why your child acts the way they do? Does your 4 year old act out of control? Does your preteen want to control everything and have violent outbursts for no given reason? Is your child just an average child or is there something that just does not seem right about this child's energy level, not able to stay on task, or unknown outbursts? Maybe your child has ADHD. ADHD is a very true illness and even though this diagnosis is turning up everywhere, there are children that truly possess this illness.  The research and studies on ADHD, have been long and tedious. Research indicates that this illness could have been passes down through generations resulting from the 1918 outbreak of encephalitis. The children of the infected parents have shown a different picture in Medical Imaging, such as an MRI. A portion of the frontal lobe of the brain appears to be immature or just missing. The medical profession has told me that it is not cost effective to have medical imaging to PROVE that my son has ADHD. To many kids are going
undiagnosed or over diagnosed. Please, if you think your child has ADHD, DEMAND an MRI or other medical imaging done on the brain, to be proof positive on your child's health and future.
